How we teach judo

At the Brisbane Judo Club we practise the core philosophy and values of Judo; efficiency (ju) way (do) – a martial art and sport that requires discipline and respect but one that is fun and accessible to all.

Judo is both physical and dynamic and focusses on players (judoka) learning skills and techniques to throw their opponents for maximum points, dominate in hold-downs and grappling ground-work (newaza), and as senior players (only) extending newaza to strangles (shime waza) and arm-locks (kansetsu waza).

Brisbane Judo Club follows a performance pathway for its players to build upon and improve their judo, by offering professional, accredited coaching for age and grade-appropriate classes. Each class focuses on skills to extend players’ repertoire and knowledge of judo techniques in a fun and safe way.

We promote self-discipline, personal development, grading and competition opportunities, engagement with others, and above all, fun through progress!
